CADETS RAID GERMANY!
Cadets from 111 (Sunderland) Squadron flew the route taken by 617 Squadron to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of The Dambusters.
Three cadets took on the challenge to fly from RAF Scampton to the Mohne Dam in their flight simulator, flying the mighty Lancaster Bomber and recreating the conditions of the original flight.
Cadet Corporal Smith, who piloted the mission said: “Doing something like this is a great opportunity to recreate and truly appreciate history, it’s a shame schools can’t teach history this way”.
The flight, which took 3 hours to complete, was a true test of the cadet’s stamina and commitment.
Commanding Officer, Flt Lt Peter Dixon said: “I thought that this would be a good practical way for the cadets to appreciate their history, it’s the first time we’ve tried it and it certainly went down well.”
