Flying & Gliding

As a cadet, you will have opportunities to fly in the Grob Tutor aircraft and take the controls under direct supervision of the pilot. The experience is certainly one you won't forget, plus later on in the year you may be offered another slot to go flying again!

In order to maximise airtime - cadets are suited up and ready to board the aircraft in a safe and efficient manner.

Cadets who go to camp will also get a chance to fly. On an RAF base, It is likely you may get an opportunity flight in anything from a Nimrod to a Chinook aswell as the Grob Tutor!

Once all the cadets have flown, and airtime is still available, staff are offered a flight. Aerobatics can be included for the brave. (All the more reason to become a CI?)

If flying is something you enjoy, the ATC can offer you courses and scholarships to further your flying experience.

A Flying Scholarship is available to those cadets who meet the age criteria and have an interest in flying. Scholarships are special and allow cadets to really get flying experience, the hours even count towards a PPL (Private Pilots Licence)

Aswell as Flying, the ATC can offer you something even more exhilarating, Gliding.

Gliding gives you the opportunity to fly without an engine in the Viking (Winch launched glider) or a Vigilant, (power glider).

Gliding is a truly unique experience, and again if you want to take it further, the ATC will offer you a gliding scholarship.

On completion of the course you will be allowed to fly the glider by yourself (Solo)

Overall, Flying and Gliding are unique to the ATC, we are proud to be blue and at 111 Squadron we can offer a lot of flying and gliding on a regular basis due to our committed staff!
