Parade Nights Tuesdays and Fridays are 111 Squadrons parade nights, we parade from 18:45 to about 21:30. On a Tuesday, Cadets are given the chance to undertake a project, Projects include, Band, Simulator, First Aid, Communications and Field Craft, these projects are practical, stimulating and fun, so much so they take up the entire night! Friday night, however, gives the cadets a chance to learn something new, here is what to expect:
45 to 19:00- Orderly This means that all of the cadets pay their subs and have their names taken. When cadets are not paying or giving their names, a chance to "chill" with their friends is given. 19:00 to 19:35 - First Parade and Drill First parade is the grouping of cadets into their flights, (A, B and C Flight). The ensign (flag) is raised and saluted by the most senior NCO and then the flights are taken individually for drill. Drill is not as boring as it sounds, it promotes self discipline and self image, two vital life skills!
35 to 20:10 - Session 1 - Class 1 Immediately after first parade the classes will be called. Cadets work their way up by passing exams, and each class works towards a different classification. Subjects are interesting and give cadets a chance to learn something new and exciting! Session 1 subjects include; Airmanship, The Rifle and Propulsion.
10 to 20:25 - Cleaning & Canteen Cleaning is done to ensure the building is in fit order for next parade night. Don't worry though, we're cadets not cleaners! Very minimal cleaning is required! After Cleaning, canteen is given. Canteen is another time to relax! Everyone has the opportunity to mingle in the large canteen area, and buy something from the canteen shop, meetings for trips/activities are usually called within this time.
25 to 21:00 - Session 2 - Class 2 After the break, cadets undertake another subject to aid them in passing their exams, 111 Squadron makes lectures interesting and involved with uses of DVDs, Videos and PowerPoint presentations. Session 2 subjects include; Advanced Radio and RADAR, Satellite Communications and Principles of flight.
00 to 21:15 - Final Parade Final parade marks the end of the parade night, the lowering of the ensign takes place in the presence of a member of staff. All the announcements are made involving upcoming events and next parade night. If meetings are to take place then 15 minutes after final parade are allotted for this. |
