ARE YOU AN AIR CADET YET?

111 Sunderland Squadron ATC took the first step in their new recruitment campaign by attending a local careers convention.

The team of four cadets and one member of staff set up their stall and prepared to meet the public at the Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland.

The event which was organised by Sunderland’s local radio station SUNFM is now a keen advocate of the Air Cadet Organisation. They have shown there support by providing a new link from their own website and giving radio interviews on the day.

The team received fifty positive enquires, 12 of which were for adult volunteers as well as handing out recruitment leaflets, air cadet magazines and ‘gizzits’.

Civilian Instructor Laura Roberts, Media and Communications Officer for the squadron was delighted with the response. She said: “It’s the first time we’ve tried an event like this and I don’t think it’ll be the last. We even had enquires about other regions in the Corps, not just our own unit.”

New links have also been made with local businesses and youth workers in the area who participated in the event. The recruitment team are now visiting schools in their area to spread the word of the ACO.
