CADETS FLYING HIGH ON £3500 GRANT

Air cadets from 111 Sunderland squadron received £3500 from Sunderland Community Chest to buy new computers.

The cadets, based at Thorney Close received the grant to buy five new computers, four of which were used in the squadrons flight simulator. The simulator, based on a Canberra aircraft uses the latest available technology to provide the most realistic flying experience for cadets.

The squadron also bought a laptop which is used as a training aid to teach cadets different skills such as operational flying, propulsion and other aviation related subjects.

Commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant Peter Dixon is delighted with the new computers, he said: “The flight simulator has taken 20 years to build and these computers have finally allowed us to bring it to completion. Ours is a unique project that gives cadets the chance to fly anywhere in the world, anytime.”
