'BLAST' FROM THE PAST

Bomber Command veterans met the next generation when they visited the cadets of 111 (Sunderland) Squadron ATC.

Members of the Squadron both young and old heard tales of bombing raids and near death experiences from the veterans.

Bomber Command was based at RAF East Kirkby in Lincolnshire during World War 2 and was instrumental in the Battle of Britain victory.

The squadron is planning a visit to East Kirkby in July to take part in a parade for the 65th anniversary of the organisation. Because of this the cadets decided to ask the veterans down to the unit to find out exactly what they did.

Former member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) Lilly Taylor, 85 was very impressed with the cadets. She said “It’s great to see kids being like this, not hanging about on street corners. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.  Fantastic”
